MINER
"Inxight's impressive suite of multilingual text analysis solutions
made them the clear choice for a text mining development partner," said
Keith Collins, senior vice president and chief technology officer for
SAS. "As we serve customers around the world, the ability to offer the
best text mining capabilities in multiple languages is essential to
supporting our global business initiatives.[1]
To enhance its text mining capabilities, Text Miner incorporates Inxight's LinguistX Platform, a natural language text analysis solution that automatically analyzes words, phrases and sentences from any unstructured source in multiple languages.[1]
The technology from Santa Clara, Calif.-based Inxight, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox that focuses on text mining, will be available in SAS Text Miner, due midyear.[2]

"Inxight is the best text mining development partner for us due to its advanced linguistic technology," said Keith Collins , senior vice president and chief technology officer for SAS. "Inxight's products offer important functionality, such as text pre-processing, concept extraction, data dictionaries and multiple language recognition, which will significantly enhance Text Miner's capabilities for our customers worldwide."[4]
Inxight's capabilities will enable Text Miner to access and run analysis against as many as 15 types of data files, including unstructured data sets such as e-mail, Microsoft Office applications, and PDF and HTML files. "We think that text mining has broad implications across several industries," said Wayne Thompson, product manager for Enterprise Miner at SAS in Cary, N.C. Thompson said that Text Miner is part of a broader strategy at SAS to analyze both structured and unstructured data. "We provide the analytics to do the clustering, predictive modeling, and CRM activities," he said.[2]
• Find the n most similar items for the selected document, term or cluster. • Filter term(s) to show documents that contain them and clusters that contain those documents. With SAS Text Miner, anyone who must sift through large volumes of text to extract information, ideas and trends will be able to transform these mas- sive, largely untapped stores of data into insightful and valuable knowledge. SAS Text Miner Features Universal data access With access to numerous forms of textual data, including Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), extended ASCII Text, HTML and Microsoft Word, users can extract, transform, and load their textual data into a SAS data set for text mining.[5]
Every day, we’re flooded with e-mails, Web pages, memos, agendas and countless other documents filled with simple words. While individuals seek to make sense of all the words that cross their paths, business analysts have had no way to use data mining techniques to detect meaningful patterns or to make predictions based on the massive volumes of text generated within their organizations and beyond. That’s why SAS, the leading provider of business intelligence, today announced the general availability of SAS® Text Miner, adding advanced text mining to the company’s market-leading data mining solution.[6]
On May 31, 2002, SAS announced the general availability of SAS Text Miner, adding advanced text mining to the company's market-leading data mining solution.[1]
